One more day of the weekend.

So Saturday night was a blur of flour, sugar, and lots and lots of butter! My sister and I made two different three layer cakes as well as rice crispy treats…oh and I prepped some lemon curd for another cake I’m going to make today.

We made a Pink Lady cake which started with trying to make strawberry puree with frozen strawberries in a blender. Yah, that didn’t go so well. So we switched over the frozen strawberry mush to a food processor. That worked a little better but still not pureeing properly. My sister came to the rescue with an unlikely appliance to help make the puree – a hairdryer. As we processed the food, she held the hairdryer to the food processor to warm up the frozen strawberries. It worked wonders…we moved through the rest of the recipe and had no further problems. {unfortunately, no pictures were taken of this cake…}

In between the cakes, we did a couple batches of salted brown butter rice crispy treats.

These things are seriously addictive. Half the tray was gone the next morning because of some secretly hungry stomachs. They are the best. rice. crispy. treats. ever. It’s okay, eat ’em all up. I still have enough ingredients for two more batches…Mmmm, good.

And then we tackled a red velvet cake. My first time trying to make it and armed with gallons of red food coloring (kidding) and we finished that one without any major horrors…and a couple days later, it’s almost gone.

On today’s kitchen agenda:
*More rice krispy treats
*Make the lemon layer cake
